The Notre Home Music Program is a studio experience brought into the school environment with an educational approach, helping broaden a youth’s interest in music. The program visits schools working with youth who have a desire to create, communicate, play and work; providing them with the opportunity to create original songs. Students learn about recording, music production, songwriting, performance, marketing and design. During the studio’s two-week residency, the Notre Home Music Program creates 5 to 10 original songs containing positive and uplifting messages. At the end of the program, one song is selected for a professional video shoot giving students a chance to experience the creation of their own music video.

  9. Montreal hip-hop artist and youth worker David Hodges is bringing hip-hop beats and rhymes to Cree youth across Eeyou Istchee. Cree Nation Youth Council is using the tour to provide young Cree with musical aspirations the opportunity to collaborate with a pro.
Starting in Waswanipi and ending a month later in Washaw Sibi, Hodges said he has changed the format that he used throughout his school tour in southern Quebec. Due to the flexible nature of the project, Hodges will shape his hip-hop/ spoken word/ slam poetry and public-speaking tour to fit the needs of each Cree community.
Speaking from Waswanipi, where the tour kicked off, Hodges said the objective of the project is to give the youth a voice and shed light on who is an individual on a “community creative level.”
